Tooth Avulsion - “I just knocked out my tooth!”

An avulsed tooth occurs when a tooth is completely dislodged from its socket. Avulsed teeth are dental emergencies that require immediate treatment. In the meantime, before you get to your dentist, there are steps you can do in order to keep your tooth alive. In order to save your tooth, try reinserting your tooth back into the socket right away (without touching or cleaning the root). Avulsed teeth treated within 30 minutes to 1 hour have the best chance. If you can’t see a dentist immediately, keep your tooth in milk or saline solution, or between your gums and lip until you can see a provider. If your dental emergency is life threatening, please call 911.
